Candace Brewer will possibly be making the most important move in her academic career on Wednesday, Feb. 24, but it won’t be happening in a classroom. She’ll be sitting in a basketball arena with thousands of other students listening to a speech made by the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize laureate — the Dalai Lama.

Fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon suspended for a year

The spring Rush Week will be one fraternity short this year. An October hazing incident involving Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) prompted FAU and the fraternity’s headquarters in Richmond, Va., to suspend SigEp from any on-campus activities for a year.

FAU officials dished 977 more traffic citations on the Boca campus last year than it did the year before. Over the last two years, new buildings have swallowed up parking lots, and students have grown in number. In fall 2009, frustration over parking reach a new level as two protests were scheduled. With the recent addition of new parking, however, 2010 may prove less frustrating.
