Florida Atlantic women’s basketball set a new program record with 13 straight defeats after its 89-55 loss to Rice University on Saturday night in Texas.

After breaking the previous record which was set back in the 2006-07 season, we take a look at the numbers that have led to this historic run:

12.8 – Average Margin of Loss

Over the course of the losing streak, FAU’s average margin of defeat has been 12.8 points. Nine of those losses has been in double digits.

In the first 10 games of the season, the Owls scoring margin was -4.

Five of those losses has been by 20 points or more, including their worst loss of the streak  — the 34 point drubbing at the hand of Rice.

Just two games have been decided by five points or less, a 51-50 loss to the University of Texas-El Paso and a 65-60 loss to Florida International University.

75 – Opponents points per game

When FAU began the year 4-6, the defense allowed an average of 71.3 points per game, but since the losing streak began, that number has risen to 75 points per game.

The Owls have allowed more than 80 points in regulation three times during the streak. Prior to it, only one opponent reached 80 points in a non-overtime game.

FAU is also allowing opponents to shoot 42 percent from the field during the streak, which is ranked ninth in the conference during that stretch.

59.9 – Points Per Game

FAU‘s lack of scoring has also been a big problem during the streak, averaging just 59.9 points per game. During the first 10 games prior to the streak, the Owls averaged 66.6 points per game.

FAU has shot just 37 percent from the field, which is ranked last in Conference USA during this stretch.

The team also had a problem in finding a go-to scorer as its leading scorer, junior Sasha Cedeno, is averaging 10.7 points per game. She has only started in seven games.

35.5 – points allowed in the paint per game:

During the streak, the Owls are allowing 35.5 points in the paint, which is 47 percent of opponents points per game right down the lane.

In its four wins this year, FAU has given up just 26 points per game in the paint.

Part of the problem is FAU does not have enough rim protection and shot blockers.  The Owls have blocked a total of 30 shots during the streak, which is 10th in the conference among the stretch.

3 – Tied for third current longest losing streak in Division I

The Owls 13 consecutive losses are currently tied for the third longest active streak in Division I women’s basketball.

School Number of consecutive losses
Chicago State University 24
Rhode Island 18
Alabama A&M University 13
