FAU drops second straight match with 5-2 loss to Florida A&M

FAU men’s tennis remains winless.

On Sunday, the Owls fell to 0-2 on the season with a 5-2 loss to Florida A&M in dual match play, FAUSports.com reports.

FAU won two of three double pairings: Jose Fantova and Richard Meade knocked off FAMU’s Chidi Gabriel and Admire Mushonga in a tie-breaking 8-7 set; Robert Dubuque and Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff defeated Temeura Asafu-Adjaye and Zack Evenden 8-7.

However, the Owls were thoroughly beaten in singles play, losing five of six matches.

Will Neuner had the only singles victory for FAU, trumping Mushonga 6-3, 6-0 in a tie-breaker at the No. 2 position. It was Neuner’s third straight win and eleventh overall.

But the rest of the Owls’ squad went down in decisive order to FAMU: Salif Kante def. Fantova (4-6, 6-2, 6-3), Gabriel def. Morin-Kougoucheff (7-5, 6-2), Takura Happy def. Meade (6-4, 6-2), Evenden def. Sean Bacha (2-6, 6-3, 6-2), and Asafu-Adjaye def. Matthew Samberg (7-6, 5-7, 6-2).

FAU’s next match is on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. against Florida State in Tallahassee.
