Boca campus library to test new 24-hour opening schedule in the spring

Get ready for uninterrupted all-nighters next spring semester with the new hours of the Wimberly Library.
Student body President Kyle MacDonald signed an executive order to launch a pilot program for the library hours to be extended. Starting January 2019, the library will be open continually from 12 p.m. Sunday to Friday at 6 p.m., otherwise known as 24/5 hours. Saturday hours will remain the same: 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
MacDonald worked with Provost Bret Danilowicz and Vice President for Student Affairs Corey King to launch the adjusted hours, according to the announcement letter posted on the SG Facebook page.
The hours for the Dunkin’ Donuts in the library will remain the same, MacDonald told the UP. However, he also said that “if there was a serious demand the hours could possibly be altered in the long-term.”
The current hours of the Dunkin’ Donuts are Monday-Thursday from 8.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m,. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.
To begin the project during the spring semester, the cost will be $13,109. If the test-run is successful and the 24/5 hours continue, the total first-year cost for the extension of library hours will be $187,679, while the subsequent yearly cost for the extended hours will be $174,570, according to MacDonald.
