Police blotter

When: Aug. 31, 2012 — 3:44 p.m.
Where: Marleen & Harold Forkas Alumni Center

A student reported his hubcaps were stolen from his Volkswagen Jetta more than once at the same parking lot.

The first incident was on Aug. 22, in Lot 6, on the west side of the Marleen & Harold Forkas Alumni Center. The student went to workout in the FAU Rec Center. When he came back to his car, he noticed the front passenger side hubcap was missing.

He thought it fell off while driving, so he went to the dealership and got them replaced for $120.

The second incident happened on Aug. 30, when he returned to Lot 6. After finishing his workout, the student found that the hubcaps from the rear passenger side were missing again. That’s when he realized they were not just falling off of his car and reported the incident.

The case is still left open.

When: Sept. 1, 2012 — 2:16 a.m.
Location: Indian River Towers (IRT) East

A resident assistant (RA) called police because a hallway smelt like pot.

Police knocked on the door where the smell was the strongest, but no one answered. According to reports, “[The RA] keyed into the suite and we were greeted at the door by the resident(s) of the suite.”

When they walked into the room, the smell was stronger.

One resident admitted to smoking in his room. According to reports the student “went into the bathroom located in the common area of the suite and pulled a backpack out from
under the sink and handed it to [the officer].”

In the bag, the officer found a box containing a Vaporite Air Freshener, a grinder used to chop up the marijuana, a long plastic tube with a glass tube at the end which appeared to contain marijuana residue in it, and a small amount of marijuana in the backpack.

Because the residents were cooperative with police and the RA, the officer told them that in lieu of criminal charges, he would be referred to the dean of students.

When: Sept. 3, 2012 — 10:16 p.m.
Location: Heritage Park Towers (HPT)

An RA called police because he smelt marijuana coming from the fourth floor of the north tower of HPT.

When police and the RA arrived at the suspected room, they knocked on the door and explained to the resident why they were there. The student gave them consent to search the room.

While one of the officers went back to the car to get a Consent to Search Form the student  handed a plastic bag with marijuana in it and a joint to the other officer.

“I guess you would’ve found it anyways,” the student told police.

The student had 1 gram of marijuana. He was given a student referral.

When: Sept. 4, 2012 — 1:39 p.m.
Location: FAU Police Department

A student called police after an ex-boyfriend, and former FAU student, threatened to post explicit pictures of her around campus if she didn’t give him back a charm he’d given her while they dated.

According to reports, the students started dating in the spring of 2011 and in October of 2011 the boyfriend returned to his country. Before he left, he gave her a black charm shaped like a hand with the all-seeing eye in the palm.

When he came back in June 2012 he wanted to rekindle the relationship, but she told him she moved on.

The ex-boyfriend demanded she return the charm back at 4 p.m. that day. She told him she couldn’t make it. He threaten to post explicit pictures of her on campus.

She went to the police station and asked if they can return the charm to her ex. Police called the ex and told him to pick it up at the station. He was told not to call, text or have threatening contact with his ex.
