Friday night in the third round of the NFL Draft, FAU tight end Rob Housler was selected by the Arizona Cardinals.

With the 69th overall selection, the Cardinals selected the 6’5 210 lb tight end, making Housler the highest drafted Owl ever. Former quarterback Rusty Smith was selected in the 6th round last year by the Tennessee Titans as he was the first ever FAU football player drafted.

Housler had 39 catches for 629 yards and 4 touchdowns last year, his most productive season during his tenure in Boca. Housler impressed scouts with a 4.49 forty-yard dash time in the NFL combine and was touted as one of the most athletic tight ends available.

“This is a really athletic kid,” Mike Mayock, NFL Draft expert for the NFL Network, told the Philadelphia Inquirer before the draft. “He’s raw, but catches the ball well. He’s an h-back guy. Another intriguing guy in a bad tight end class.”

With the draft still ongoing, FAU has three other draft hopefuls in Michael Lockley, Lestar Jean and Jeff Van Camp.
