The Today & Beyond Wellness Center held their annual Sexually Responsible Bed Race in honor of National Condom Week.
The bed race took over the Breezeway on Feb. 10. 16 groups entered the race to promote sexual health, and more than 100 people stood by and watched.
“It was our most attended event as far as entries,” said Jenna Beckwith, health promotions coordinator for the Today & Beyond Wellness Center. “Creativity and interest was more than any year. Some students had really educational messages.”
The teams incorporated funny messages so that students watching would take the educational messages with them. Lambda Theta Alpha, a sorority on campus, had the message “When getting funky, protect your monkey” on their race cart.
The Today & Beyond Wellness Center doesn’t just promote sexual health awareness, but alcohol awareness as well.
“We’re providing students with a higher chance for success at school,” said Beckwith. “When you have a very avoidable problem like an STD or a DUI, you have a barrier to success.”
