Smith, Harmon to join Schnellenberger in all-star game

Football head coach Howard Schnellenberger won’t be the only member of FAU at the Texas vs. The Nation all-star game.

A pair of former FAU players, quarterback Rusty Smith and tight end Jason Harmon, will join Schnellenberger on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas, for the all-star match scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m. EST. The game can be seen on CBS College Sports.

Smith and Harmon become FAU’s sixth and seventh players to participate in the game since the football team’s inception in 2001. The duo joins former quarterback Jared Allen as FAU’s only offensive players to end their collegiate playing careers in an all-star game.

Smith and Harmon’s invitations to the all-star game bode well for their NFL futures. Ninety-three percent of the 2009 squad (111-119) signed an NFL contract.

Schnellenberger will coach The Nation once again, after leading the team to victory in 2009.

FAU linebacker Frantz Joseph earned defensive MVP honors in last year’s event and went on to sign with the Oakland Raiders before being released in the preseason.
