Make the Night Special

A Valentine’s Day date is typically a romantic evening out with your sweetie, but it doesn’t have to be a stereotypical date.

Going to a fancy restaurant, buying flowers, giving chocolate and a teddy bear is nice. But this year, with your funds being low, going all-out on one day doesn’t seem practical.

Whether you want to try a new restaurant or do something active, fun and new, check out our list for a different Valentine’s Day.

Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens
For a beautiful destination at a cheap price, check out the Japanese gardens at the Morikami for only $6 with your Owl card. On Feb. 14, guests can learn how to make an origami heart at the Valentine’s Heart program from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The origami program is included in your $6 admission to the gardens and museum.

Paint your own pottery
Now guys, you may think it’s cheesy to do arts and crafts, but your girl will love you for it. At Imagine That Creations, you can paint a ceramic mug, plate or figurine any way you want to remember your Valentine’s Day.

Yokohama Sushi
Love sushi, never had it, or looking for a new sushi place? Well, this one has it all — a half-off sushi menu every day, $2 Budweisers and two big-screen TVs. It’s a cozy little restaurant in the Mizner area — but not priced like the rest of the area’s restaurants.
60 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton (561) 392-9328

Crabby Jack’s
If you’re looking for a low-key, fun atmosphere with great drink specials, this is the place. Every night between 9 and 10, any drink — whether it’s liquor, wine, beer or soda — is 70 percent off, or basically three-for-one. They also have just about anything to eat, so bring your appetite too.

Panthers hockey game
If you and your honey love sports, then the Panthers’ “Fall in Love with the Panthers” contest is for you. Visit their Web site before Feb. 11 for your chance to win two tickets to the game on Feb. 13, dinner for two prior to the game, flowers delivered to your date and a box of chocolate. If you miss the contest, you can still buy tickets for only $17 for the home games on Feb. 13 and 15.
