Administration Building Evacuated Wednesday after Delivery of “Suspicious Package”

The FAU administration building was evacuated Wednesday morning after administrators on the second floor received a suspicious package.

The package, an envelope, was received at 10:15 a.m. and inside the letter, the fire department discovered the word “anthrax.” Nothing else was in the envelope.

According to Thomas Bradley, interim director of the Environmental Health and Safety department at FAU, Boca Raton Fire-Rescue authorities have determined that this was a false alarm.

“There was nothing actually in the envelope, but authorities have an ongoing criminal investigation pending,” Bradley told the UP.

When the letter was received, administration building staff members were evacuated immediately and were not allowed back to work until a little after noon.

Local area media have reported the package was from a disgruntled employee, but FAU has yet to confirm with the UP.

FAU Police Chief Lowe could not be reached for comment.
