Eurydice Now Playing at FAU

This week, FAU Theatre presents a modern retelling of the classic Greek Myth “Eurydice.”

It’s directed by Trent Blanton and is indeed nothing short of a tragic love story told from Eurydice’s perspective.

Eurydice and Orpheus were two newlywed lovers, but then one day their love is shattered when Eurydice dies and descends to Hades, the underworld. There, she is reunited with her father who struggles to restore her memory, which was lost on her way into Hades. Meanwhile, Orpheus, determined to get his lover back, travels to Hades to rescue her. There he tries to convince Hades, the devil himself, to return Eurydice to him by playing beautiful music for him.

“After five weeks of working on the show, Eurydice turned out beautifully, filled with superb acting. It really makes me proud,” says Blanton, who is working on his master’s in theatre.

Blanton is also a professional actor and has played in “Les Miserables” in New York City.

All acting in the play is performed by FAU students. The two main leads, “Eurydice” and “Orpheus,” are played by Alex Antonopoulos and Tim Marriott, both of whom are fine arts majors. Antonopoulos and Marriott acted together in their first FAU play, “Hamlet,” and now, together again as seniors, are playing in their last FAU play “Eurydice”.

“Everyone who has a chance to go see Eurydice … should jump at the chance. This will be a very creative contemporary production of a timeless tale,” says theatre instructor Cynthia Zait. “I’m really looking forward to seeing it myself!”

“Eurydice” will be playing from Friday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 12 in the Studio One Theatre on campus. General admission tickets are $16. Faculty, staff and alumni may purchase tickets for $10. Current students may obtain tickets free at the door or reserve them ahead of time for $5. Tickets may be purchased at the door, by visiting www.fauevents.com or by calling (800)564-9539.
