Coyote Jack’s Watch Party

They moaned, gasped, yelled, screamed, awed and even sang. These were just a few of the emotions displayed by a packed crowd at the FAU-Texas game watch party at Coyote Jack’s on campus Saturday night.

Students and some regular fans packed the on-campus bar and grill, leaving standing room only. The cheerleaders were there passing out shirts to the crowd, getting everyone excited. “This is a really, really great turnout,” senior Joleen West said. “Everybody is screaming and yelling and really into the game.”

The loudest reaction of the night was when FAU finally scored late in the second quarter to cut the lead to 28-10. Fans began hugging, slapping high fives, and celebrating. FAU chants filled the air as the Owls fans displayed their excitement. “Yes! They scored!” sophomore Robert Rosenbaum screamed, as he then joined in the “F-A-U” chants. As Texas padded their lead and put the game further out of reach with each possession, the FAU faithful in attendance were unfazed. Many stayed throughout the second half despite the score. They still clapped every first down, cheered every time the Owls made a play and jeered every time Texas scored. One of the loudest jeers of the evening was when actor Matthew McConaughey was shown on the television wearing his burnt orange Texas shirt. Boos and heckling filled the packed room.

Claudio Olivia, an FAU alum and huge Owls fan, stayed the entire game. “I’m not going to leave early just because they are getting blown out,” he said. “I am a true fan, and will support them no matter who they are playing or what the score is.”
