Get Out of Your Room…

Comedy Central cares about FAUOK, maybe Comedy Central doesn’t care or know where FAU is, but they decided to host a show on campus. You might expect the network to send over some newbies from Premium Blend, but instead they’re sending the highly rated Greg Giraldo. Though Giraldo might not be as well known as Dane Cook, he has participated in all of Comedy Central’s celebrity roasts which stretch from Flavor Flav to Jeff Foxworthy. Giraldo is also famous for his talk on “the difference between women and bitches.” Giraldo will be performing on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Barry Kaye auditorium with other comedians. Flash your Owl card at the Student Union box office for free tickets.

All-out brawlStudent Government is ready to hold a mock debate. Fine. There probably won’t be an all-out brawl between the student body president and vice president, but they might yell at each other. While the UP will be moderating the debate, questions regarding the well-being of students and political issues will rouse some emotions. You can catch this insightful and perhaps exciting event on Jan. 17 from 6-8 p.m. Contact the SG office at (561) 297- 0000 for more information.

Get a voiceNot only can you get hassled by student political groups, chapel club, and the consistent fraternity recruitment gang, but you can also register to vote in the Boca Breezeway this week. Numerous tables will host volunteers hoping to get you registered as well as political activists speaking out. Registering takes only a few minutes and will give you the opportunity to be worthy of a political opinion. If you don’t vote, then you didn’t try to change the way things run, and nothing’s worse than not having a voice.

Carnies on stageBustling with clowns, acrobats and four-legged friends, Barnum & Bailey’s crew is rolling into Miami. You won’t get hussled or grossed out by smelly carnies, but you can still watch them do crazy things. Sharing the ring are a pair of “human cannonballs,” some cunning high-wire acrobats, endearing Asian elephants and magnificent white tigers. Happening from Jan. 4-13, tickets are available at Ticketmaster and the day of the show at the American Airlines Arena.

Killswitch EngageWhat more can one say about this metalcore band from Westfield, Massachusetts? Their sound mixes crushing riffs, double-bass drum patterns, and furious screaming, growling vocals with melodic elements. You can see this band of four that uses complex single-note and power chord riffs featuring dual-guitar harmonies, often punctuated with pinch harmonic squeals at the Jackie Gleason Center in Miami Beach on Jan. 14 along with Every Time I Die and Parkway Drive. Log onto www.ticketmaster.com to get your tickets now.
