FAU Shooting Woes Continue

The ball wasn’t bouncing FAU’s way as poor shooting hurt the women’s basketball team when they lost to Denver (7-11, 2-5 Sun Belt Conference) 69-53 in the de Hoernle Center at Lynn University.

FAU shot just 33 percent in the game. Most of the damage was in the second half as the team went nine of 32 from the floor. Currently the Owls are averaging 37.3 percent shooting per game, which is 11th in the 13-team Sun Belt Conference.

Sara Benham led Denver with 18 points and Nnenna Akotaobi had 13 as the Pioneers shot an effective 42 percent from the floor with four players scoring in double digits.

The frontcourt for Denver was also effective and dominated the game, especially in the paint, outscoring FAU 30 to 14.

Denver has won all three of their all-time meetings with FAU and also captured their first road win this season.

Carla Stubbs scored 20 points, shooting seven of 14 from the floor and Jaimie Givens had 12 points with 10 rebounds. This was Givens’ first double-double since the Kentucky game when she finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

With the loss, FAU fell to 4-13 and 0-8 in the Sun Belt Conference.
