Long-Shot Presidential Candidate Drops Out of Race

Presidential candidate Jeff Joyner, who admitted two weeks ago that he only ran for president in case a technicality forced one or both of the other candidates out of the race, dropped out Monday.

“I only declared my candidacy in case the other [candidates] that declared were ineligible,” Jupiter student Joyner said.

Joyner, who was the only candidate from a partner campus, admitted from the beginning that his campaign was a long shot.

Student Body President Austin Shaw was sad to see Joyner drop out of the race.

“I think it’s too bad that he dropped out. Of the 27,000 students we have, I think he is one of the most capable, morally and intellectually.”

He ended his candidacy in an e-mail sent to SG’s elections supervisor. Joyner wrote that he believed he would be better able to serve the students in SG’s newly formed university wide senate. He then wished the other candidates luck.

SG’s elections for will be held on March 27 and March 28. Voting will be online here

Joyner could not be reached for comment.
