Local artists display intriguing mixed media art

The Schmidt and Ritter art galleries on the Boca campus are currently presenting a series of contemporary art lectures from local artists. The works’ of the winners of the 2006 Visual and Media Artists Fellowship are also on display now through Oct. 28 in the Schmidt and Ritter art galleries.æThe art displayed in both galleries combines 3-D, photos, sculptures, frames and mixed media ranging from a wedding dress made out of trash bags to a piece using a bedspread, mattress, bed sheet and bed cover. Another piece, appropriately titled “Please Keep Your Internal Thoughts Internal,” by Tim Curtis, displays more than 700 blackboards comprised of one man’s worldly thoughts.æ

On Oct.11, two filmmakers will discuss their works in the exhibition. Chad Tingle’s Another Day, Another Dollar will be shown on the Boca campus in GS 119 at 7 p.m.æ The final lecture in the series includes Christina Louis Pettersson and Tim Curtis on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. Pettersson has had exhibitions worldwide – everywhere from New York to Sweden. Curtis also has permanent collections in Korea, Wyoming and St. Louis. æ

The Ritter Art Gallery is located on the Boca campus on the second level of the Breezeway, east of the S.E. Wimberley Library. The Schmidt Center Gallery is located in the Dorothy F. Schmidt Center for Performing Arts. All events are free and open to the public.æ
