September 6, 2006
– Clemson Head Football Coach Tommy Bowden is the son of Florida State University Football Head Coach Bobby Bowden.
– Tommy Bowden’s first memories of FAU Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger, were when he coached for FSU in 1982-1983. Schnellenberger was the Head Coach at the University of Miami, and the two masterminds of college football met during the annual FSU-Miami rivalry game.
– Clemson’s Memorial Stadium attendance capacity is 81,473. The announced attendance of 77,000 was the most fans FAU has ever faced in a college football game.
– All Clemson players touch a rock in the end-zone before coming onto the field before a game. The rock, known as “Howards Rock,” was donated to Clemson’s legendary Head Coach Frank Howard in 1966 from S.C. Jones, who got the rock in California’s Death Valley Desert. Hence the name of the Tigers’ stadium, “Death Valley.”
