Kris Bartels was second in tackles for FAU in 2005, with 82 tackles. He also recovered two fumbles and had a 39-yard interception return for a touchdown vs. Louisiana-Monroe. Bartels had a season high 15 tackles against Middle Tennessee State University. Early on in 2005, Bartels became a starting safety in the Owls secondary, the strength of the team. Bartels is the leader of the secondary, which consists of defensive backs and safeties. His energy on the field seems to be contagious to a young talented defense. Bartels has 96 career tackles and three fumble recoveries. These are truly astonishing feats because Bartels has only played in 17 games. He played on the nine-win 2004 team and should provide a highlight reel of great defensive plays for Owls fans.
