Owl Pellets

The men’s soccer team returned from a tough trip to Colorado with a strong performance at the FIU Diadora Classic in Miami. Shutout wins over Xavier and Alabama A&M improved the Owls’ overall record to 3-4. Senior goaltender Anders Granstad and freshman forward Javier Carillo were named A-Sun Conference players of the week for their efforts. Granstad is the FAU all time leader with 11 shutouts.

The women’s soccer team came up with a big win over archrival FIU, 1-0. Susanna Lehtinen, it being her sixth of the year, scored the lone goal. Goaltenders Megan Coyne and Jessica Badders combined for the shutout. The duo has been an effective platoon in net this season, combining on five shutouts and five wins in eight games…

The stellar season continued for the women’s volleyball team last week. Wins over Boston College and Sienna highlighted the schedule as the team improved to 12-0 in its final season in the A-Sun Conference. FAU played its toughest match of the season against Boston College as the Owls edged the Eagles in the maximum five games. The team was lead by senior Kelly Paiva, who broke a school record for attempts in a match with 90, and also added 33 kills.

The men’s golf team may be young but they are still competitive. The team is made up of six freshman, two sophomores, one junior and two seniors. One of the sophomores, Mike Berger stepped up and led the Owls in the Reynolds Plantation Classic in Greensboro, Georgia. Berger shot a final round of 73, one over par, to finish in sixteenth place for the three round tournament. The Owls finished in tenth place as a team while Southern Mississippi University won. The Owls next tournament is the Winthrop Invitational, which starts on Oct. 7.
