The candidates

Steven L. Abrams

Age: 46

Years in Boca: 19

Profession: Abrams is an attorney in the Boca Raton Office of the national law firm of Blank Rome. Prior to moving to Florida, he served in the White House as law clerk to the Counsel to President Reagan. He is a member of the Florida and District of Columbia Bars.

Experience: Abrams, elected in 2001, has served two terms as the City of Boca mayor. Prior to his election, he served five terms as a City Council Member from 1989 to 1999, including three years as deputy mayor. He was a member of the City’s Planning and Zoning Board between 1987 and 1989. Abrams is a past president and current board member of the Palm Beach County League of Cities.

Education: Graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1980 and received his law degree from The George Washington University in 1985.

Personal: Abrams was born in Des Moines, Iowa and grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Debbie have been married for 21 years and have two children, Margaret and Arthur.

Campaign platform: Fiscal responsibility, traffic solutions, hometown security, public safety, and to preserve the citizen’s quality of life.

Mark D. Boykin

Age: 45

Years in Boca: 17

Profession: He was elected as Senior Pastor at First Assembly of God church of Boca Raton in 1989.

Experience: A member of the Assemblies of God organization and President of Christian Ministries International, Boykin has led many overseas and local missions to bring relief and medical aid to the needy. He has worked with U.S. Ambassadors, cabinet members, government officials and corporate leaders on behalf of these relief efforts.

Education: Studied English literature at the University of South Alabama on a partial football scholarship, graduated from Central Bible College in Missouri. Interests: An avid reader, enjoys sports and studying history.

Personal: Boykin was born in Mississippi and grew up in Alabama and Missouri. He and his wife Beth have been married 17 years and have three children, Jennifer, Daniel, and Susan

Campaign platform: Stop overdevelopment, end traffic gridlock, improve city safety, build new libraries, create better urgent healthcare, and listen to what the people have to say.”
