Game day

March 6-14

Ice skatingWe start with the coldest activity during the warmest break of the year. Any rink that you would like to go to will charge roughly $6 for three hours of skating with rental skates. The atmosphere is enjoyable, as all rinks have a D.J. and run games like Limbo and races. The times are everyday in the morning and early afternoon with weekend skates on Friday and Saturday nights. The weekend nights have light shows along with the music, and ice skating is the ultimate date event.

BowlingWho doesn’t like to bowl? Alleys can charge as much as $3 dollars per person per game or $10 for the night. Specials at bowling alleys are always being run, especially on weekend nights. Some alleys play music and turn the lights down at night to get an older crowd into the building. Oh yeah, bars are always open at bowling alleys, so drinks will be available.

GolfGolf courses have their group of people that are faithful and show up once a week if not more often. Those players usually tee off early in the morning, so by early afternoon most golf courses are empty. That is when the monetarily impaired should play their rounds. Usually after three or four in the afternoon prices drop to less than half of what they normally are. That could be as low as $9 for 18 holes. The best part is, if you are not that good no one will be there to see you.

FishingSouth Florida is a hotbed for fishing. You could go to the ocean or travel west to the Everglades, not to mention all the canals in between. The cost for fishing depends on your interest. You could spend $5 dollars to go onto one of the many piers or splurge with some friends and rent a boat, approximately $250 for half a day. Other than those expenses, money for bait and a fishing rod is all you need to drop line in a canal or on a shore.

Pick-up gamesLet’s face it, you do not need to spend any money to drive down to your local park and join a pick-up game of basketball, soccer, volleyball, or even roller hockey. The perfect sunny day is always open for some gaming with friends, but you could even go alone and meet some new people. These games are also a leap-frog into local leagues if you meet people you like and they think you are good enough to join their teams.

UP predictionAny of these options will fulfill a Spring breaker’s urge to play sports over the break. The costs are low and the enjoyment varies. The UP will go with the golf since it is quiet and relaxing. The scenery alone could spark ideas for new stories a writer needs to make deadline. So we encourage you to get out and play no matter what sport you choose, and remember, have fun. It’s Spring break.
