DJs to compete at Boca’s bar & grill Wackadoos

Originally slated as an MC battle, Boca campus Governor Alvira Khan, the Governor’s Administrative Cabinet and Owl Radio are now presenting a DJ spin-off on Feb. 25 from 7 p.m to 11 p.m at Wackadoos in the University Center. The spin-off will be hosted by DJ Jazz aka Jazz Singh from the radio station.

There is a sign-up list outside the Student Government offices and students can sign up for free until Feb. 22. The second place prize is a collection of hip-hop records, while the grand prize is yet to be decided.

” [Alvira Khan] has been a huge help,” Senator Jimmy Murphy, the event’s initiator, says. “She is the one person I can rely on.” Owl Radio helped out with organizations and will be lending the equipment for the event.

The idea for the MC battle fell through, according to Murphy, when he decided he wanted to avoid some of the problems associated with MC battles, such as foul language.

“The MC battle was my passion,” Murphy says, “but I didn’t want to put the negative connotation onto Student Government.”
