Members of student organizations were splattered in paint and scurrying to complete their sidewalk block paintings, November 1, near the Boca Raton campus dormitories.

“I love it. It’s great,” said Cynthia Currie, FAU Surf Club president, of her club’s artwork.

It was another sunny, successful day for FAU students participating on behalf of their clubs. Although occasional wind gusts were a nuisance, the sun and cool breeze kept students comfortable throughout the day.

Students were given the opportunity to show their creativity by painting sidewalk murals to describe and represent their organizations. The work began at 9 a.m., and lasted until the 4 p.m. deadline.

The block designs were submitted to the Student Development and Activities Block Painting Committee for prior approval to ensure all designs were appropriate. Students were given free brushes, rollers, paint pans, and all the paint they could handle. Volunteers from the Housing and Residential Life offices handed out the supplies.

A DJ was on hand spinning music for the students who were painting the blocks. Free pizza and soda was delivered around noon, and nearly all the student artists and helpers took advantage of the free refreshments to help fuel their creative fires.

Luck favored the student groups that finished the majority of their work early. There was enough time for the paint to dry before a rainfall struck that evening. Unfortunately, some clubs’ murals were ruined owing to heavy downpours through the night. The vast majority of blocks remain intact, and have helped brighten students’ walks to and from class.
