Who’s on the Board of Governors

Besides Paez, the 17-member entity includes 14 members that the governor appointed and the senate confirms. The other two members are the education commissioner and the representative of the statewide faculty senate. Paez is the only student on the board.

Bush appointed the following:

Pamela Bilbrey, 48, of Pensacola, is currently a senior vice president of corporate development at Baptist Health Care Inc.

Dr. Castell V. Bryant, 64, of Miami, has been the president of Miami-Dade Community College, North Campus since 1997. Bryant was a former member of the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees.

John Dasburg, 59, of Key Biscayne, is currently chairman, chief executive officer, and president of Burger King Corporation.

Miguel De Grandy, 44, is an attorney in private practice in Miami. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida.

Rolland Heiser, 77, of Sarasota is a retired Lt. General with the Army, where he served for 32 years. He’s currently president of the New College Foundation.

Gerri Moll, 41, of Naples, is currently president of Bank of America, SW Florida. She’s also a member of the Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation Board.

Joan Wellhouse Newton, 73, of Orange Park, is currently serving as chairman emeritus for Regency Centers, Inc.

Ava L. Parker, 40, of Jacksonville, is an attorney and partner for the law offices of Lawrence, Parker & Neighbors, LLC. She was a member of the University of Central Florida BOT.

Thomas F. Petway, III, 62, of Jacksonville, is currently chairman of the board for Zurich Insurance Services, Inc. He served several terms as a member of the Board of Regents (BOR) and is the chair of Gov. Bush’s Transition Team.

Carolyn K. Roberts, 57, of Ocala, is currently the president of Roberts Real Estate, Inc. In 1989, she was appointed by Gov. Martinez to the BOR, and later reappointed by Gov. Bush. In 2001, Bush appointed her to the Florida Board of Education.

Chris Sullivan, 54, of Tampa, is currently the chairman, CEO, and founder of Outback Steakhouse, Inc.

John W. Temple, 65, of Boca Raton, is president and CEO of Temple Development Company. He was the former chairman of the FAU BOT.

Steven Uhlfelder, 56, of Tallahassee is currently a lawyer in private practice. Uhlfelder was a member of the Florida State University BOT and a past member of the BOR.

Zachariah P. Zachariah, M.D., 53, of Sea Ranch Lakes in Broward County, has been a physician since 1976.
