Komen Foundation Offers College Scholarships to Children of Breast Cancer Victims — The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is one of the nation’s largest private funding sources for breast health and breast cancer research. Its mission is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening, and treatment. The Komen Foundation is currently accepting applications for its College Scholarship Program, which offers college scholarships of up to $10,000 a year, over a four- year period. The purpose of the Susan G. Komen Foundation College Scholarship Award is to assist students who are the children of a parent who has died of breast cancer. The scholarships will be renewable upon satisfactory progress toward the completion of their degree. The scholarship will be awarded to those eligible applicants dedicated to achieving a baccalaureate degree from an accredited state-supported college or university located in the applicant’s state of residence. The determination of award recipients will be based on the evaluation of academic achievement, community service, and demonstrated leadership ability. Mary Isabel Sibley Fellowship — Criteria: Women between the ages of 25 and 35; must hold doctorate or have fulfilled all requirements except the dissertation and plan to devote full-time work to research during the fellowship year. Phi Beta Kappa Society sponsors this fellowship with an annual stipend of $20,000. The award may be used for the study of Greek language, literature, history, or archaeology, or for the study of French language or literature. The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation Academic Postdocs in the Humanities — Criteria: Applicants must have received or expect to receive their Ph.D. in a humanities discipline between December 2000 and June 2002. National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Research Award — Awards are available to improve the quality of doctoral dissertation research by means of allowing candidates greater creativity in gathering and analysis of data than would be otherwise possible.
