Scholarships

The following is a list of scholarships that are available to FAU students. Unless otherwise noted, applications can be found in the Financial Aid Office, which is located above the Breezeway Cafeteria in Rm. 227. Scholarship information was posted on the bulletin board outside Financial Aid during the week of Sept. 3. For more information, call 561/297-3530. Komen Foundation Offers College Scholarships to Children of Breast Cancer Victims — The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is one of the nation’s largest private funding sources for breast health and breast cancer research. Its mission is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening, and treatment. The Komen Foundation is currently accepting applications for its College Scholarship Program, which offers college scholarships of up to $10,000 a year, over a four- year period. The purpose of the Susan G. Komen Foundation College Scholarship Award is to assist students who are the children of a parent who has died of breast cancer. The scholarships will be renewable upon satisfactory progress toward the completion of their degree. The scholarship will be awarded to those eligible applicants dedicated to achieving a baccalaureate degree from an accredited state-supported college or university located in the applicant’s state of residence. The determination of award recipients will be based on the evaluation of academic achievement, community service, and demonstrated leadership ability. SWEA South Florida’s Cultural Scholarship 2003 — Requirements: a male or female residing in Florida who wishes to study or pursue projects in the Swedish language, Swedish culture, Environmental Science, Health Care, Art, Music, Literature, or an exchange program in Sweden. All areas are with specific emphasis on Sweden and Swedish aspects. DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) — Fellowships are available to enable students and junior faculty to study at a German university or to work on a research project in Germany. Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority — Criteria: Student must be a junior or senior education major, and a female resident of Lake County or Sumter County for at least one year.Deadline: not published

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund — Applicants must be dependent children or spouses of person(s) killed or disabled as a result of September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. Mary Isabel Sibley Fellowship — Criteria: Women between the ages of 25 and 35; must hold doctorate or have fulfilled all requirements except the dissertation and plan to devote full-time work to research during the fellowship year. Phi Beta Kappa Society sponsors this fellowship with an annual stipend of $20,000. The award may be used for the study of Greek language, literature, history, or archaeology, or for the study of French language or literature. The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation Academic Postdocs in the Humanities — Criteria: Applicants must have received or expect to receive their Ph.D. in a humanities discipline between December 2000 and June 2002. The two-year fellowship provides time and resources for research, dissertation pre-publication revisions, broadens pedagogical experiences and abilities, and encourages good practices in graduate education by emphasizing pedagogical experience, timely degree achievement, and meticulous scholarship. National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Research Award — Awards are available to improve the quality of doctoral dissertation research by means of allowing candidates greater creativity in gathering and analysis of data than would be otherwise possible. Awards are only in certain disciplines, including the social and behavioral sciences and certain biological sciences.
