Attorney donates $100K to football

Florida Atlantic’s football program got a financial boost Friday, October 18, when it was announced that attorney Willie E. Gary will donate $100,000 to the Owls.

The money will help pay for scholarships and other expenses related to the FAU football team, which is in its second season in Division I-AA.

Coach Howard Schnellenberger said the gift would help the program attract student athletes and aid in his goal of having the team move into Division I-A as quickly as possible.

Gary, a high profile malpractice attorney who has won multiple million dollar verdicts, helped to bring football back to Edward Waters College in Jacksonville and his alma mater, Shaw University in Raleigh.

Gary, who played football at Shaw, is the uncle of former University of Miami and Los Angeles Rams running back Cleveland Gary.
