Luis Fonsi
Fight The Feeling
MCA/Universal Records
This month Puerto Rican born and Orlando, Florida raised Latin music crooner Luis Fonsi crosses over into the Pop charts with his first album in English and fourth overall. Fight The Feeling will be Fonsi’s second album produced this year (Amor Secreto was released in March). In his four year career in the recording business, Fonsi’s voice and good looks has caused young girls worldwide to fall in love with him. In 1998 he captured the Latin music world with the ballads in his debut Comenzarí©. Two years later he released his sophomore album Eterno, which included his power ballad “Dime Si Tu.”
In Fight The Feeling, Fonsi’s English crossover fusing power love ballads, R&B, and at times the influence of Latin music to deliver heartfelt messages in 11 songs. The album’s first single “Secret” is the English version of the title track to his album Amor Secreto. Already gaining airplay and video play on MTV, “Secret” is probably the hit that will give Fonsi his break into the Pop world.
In the track “Fight the Feeling” Fonsi revives the “New Jack Swing” sound heard in ex TKA member K7’s album Swing Batta Swing. “Fight the Feeling” is a song that is cheesy as hell, but the lyrics can be addictive. In “Twisted” and “One Night Thing” the R&B in Fonsi’s voice really comes out, accompanied by raw beats similar to those used by today’s R&B artists Fonsi may be hitting R&B charts soon.
If you were at Britney Spear’s concert on July 14th then you had the pleasure of listening to Fonsi’s voice. By following his career you’ll find that he’s a true bilingual artist, in which he can deliver a concert perfectly in English and en Espaí±ol. Many people use other Latin-Crossover artists as comparisons to describe Luis Fonsi’s performance and voice but truthfully there isn’t anyone out there that can compare to his sound. If you are going to pick up this album, do yourself a favor and pick up one of his albums in Spanish as well.
