Florida Atlantic’s very own Student Union has ranked No. 14 in Best College Values’ 2015 “30 Most Amazing Student Unions.”

Best College Values is a website that gives current and prospective college students information about what is going on in the higher education world.

To create the lineup, each student union was judged by “architecture and exterior appeal,” along with “facilities, interior appeal and tradition.”

Coming in at No. 1 was High Point University’s Slane Student Union in North Carolina; No. 2 was Oklahoma State’s Union. Florida State’s Ogelsby Union was the only other Florida school mentioned and ranked No. 28.

“All elements of a quality university are present at the Student Union, from exposure to many different cultures and nationalities to access to social and academic resources capable of enriching a mind for the future and the length of a lifetime,” said Best College Values about FAU’s student life hub.

On the FAU Class of 2018 (Official) Facebook page, freshman computer science major David Ferreira said, “The Student Union has a lot to do. I like to spend my breaks with the gaming club on occasion, and it’s just a cool place to relax.”

Other students, current and past, seem to feel otherwise. On the official Florida Atlantic University Facebook page, comments ranged from “This has to be a joke,” to “When I was there 20 years ago it wasn’t great.”

The Union first opened in the fall of 1972 and has expanded over the years to host a variety of facilities. The last major renovation included “a 380-seat Resident Dining Hall and full service kitchen, conference/meeting rooms and a new main retail corridor” and was completed in 2002 as stated on FAU’s website.

Despite the mixed opinions from students on social media, with FAU’s renewed focus on building the university brand, the No. 14 rank is more proof of the school’s growing popularity.
