Alcohol of the Week

*Editor’s note: All wines selected were tasted during FAU’s wine tasting class, World of Wines (GEO 3314), in which four UP staff members are enrolled this semester. And the beer and the cocktail… well, we just like to drink.

Got a suggestion? E-mail me at [email protected].

Wine of the week:Dow’s Fine Tawny Porto – A bright citrus, caramel and almond-flavored dessert wine topped with a hint of brandy. With 19 percent alcohol content, this is a classy wine to get drunk from. Find it for $11.99 at any Total Wine.

Beer of the week:Sea Dog Bluepaw Blueberry Wheat Ale – A fruity wheat beer with a hearty wheat flavor and a blueberry kick. Made with Maine blueberries, this beer even smells like the berry with which it’s made. Available at Albertsons for $7.69 for a 6-pack.

Cocktail of the week:Tipsy Turtle – A fruity drink with a whole lot of rum: Bacardi Light, Myers’s Dark, Captain Morgan Spiced and Malibu rums, with orange and pineapple juices. Get it for $9 at Melting Pot on Federal Highway in Boca. Bonus: For the month of September, Melting Pot will give students with FAU ID 15 percent off.
