FAU brings in the big bucks

FAU contributes over one billion dollars to South Florida’s economy, says a recent study conducted by FAU’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analysis. The study measured FAU’s impact on the economy in South Florida in hopes of raising awareness of FAU’s importance.

FAU’s impact to the economy of South Florida is due to the expenditures of FAU, faculty/staff, the students and visitors. Among student expenditures estimated were books, transportation, and off-campus housing. Students generate over one hundred million dollars in Palm Beach County, according to the study.

Other important conclusions reached from the study include that for every dollar that the state invests in FAU, FAU returned $8.10 to the local economy. Also, FAU employs nearly 8,500 people in the area who either work directly (2,267 fulltime faculty/staff) or indirectly (vendors, construction, etc.) with the University.
