OWL TV’s Amanda Sech is still a nerd

Many students have become victims to “Elevator Confessions,” a hit show on OWL TV. It starts off innocently enough: An unsuspecting student goes into a elevator and is accompanied by Amanda Sech and a camera man. Sech proceeds to stop the elevator and ask the ambushed student his or her most embarrassing moment.

Recently, the tables were turned on Sech when she was asked what her most embarrassing moment was.

“In high school, we had this great stair case that was like three stories high and it came down to this open place where students kind of just hung out when school came out,” Sech says. “I was a major nerd in high school, much like I am now, and so I had tons of books, and I had these really big shoes on, which I shouldn’t have been doing since I was carrying all this stuff. But I tripped and fell carrying all this stuff tumbling down the stairs, my books went flying. And this is all in front of a crowd of like 15 people.”

Sech, the self-proclaimed nerd, is not just a simple OWL TV anchorwoman who has a hit show, she is also the University Wide Station Manager at OWL TV. Sech didn’t get to the position easily, though. She had to go through a lot of hard work before it paid off.

“Well, I actually started at OWL TV at the honors college at the Macarthur College,” says Sech. “I then became the liaison to Boca for OWL TV, and helped establish OWL TV at that campus, and became the station manager at the Jupiter campus.” Sech then transferred to the Boca Raton campus and tried to get a job at OWL TV but found out there would be some problems.

“The staff positions at the Boca OWL TV office were already full, so I volunteered for about a semester and became the university wide OWL TV station manager,” said Sech.

Since Sech started to work for OWL TV four years ago, she has accomplished quite a bit at only 20 years old. That’s right, Sech skipped her senior year of high school and started at the Honors college at the age of 17.

“I helped establish OWL TV at the Macarthur campus” Sech says. “We also passed a bill to establish OWL TV at the Treasure Coast campus. We now have OWL TV at the Broward Campus, Boca, the Jupiter campus, as well as the Treasure Coast campus.”

Sech still wishes to accomplish more, however, and still has higher expectations for OWL TV. “I would like to see a further improving of quality of shows on OWL TV as well as a wider variety,” she says

After four years of working at OWL TV, Sech believes that OWL TV can provide students with skills they can’t learn anywhere else.

“When you work at OWL TV you gain a tremendous amount of experience that you cant gain anywhere else on campus,” Sech says. “You can come in, produce, direct, write, edit and do talent on your own show and work on other professional shows.”
