Comedian Lectures on Eating Disorders

Comedian and recovered anorexic Michelle Garb presented a lecture called “Fat Brain, Skinny Body” on Tuesday, May 25 at the Davie Campus. Garb used humor and her experience with an eating disorder to discuss the issues of bulimia, anorexia and compulsive overeating. An estimated five to ten million women and one million men are struggling with eating disorders that result in infertility, hair loss, heart attacks, kidney failure and even death. Garb explained how to approach a friend or loved one that may be suffering from an eating disorder, and ways to accept if you are experiencing compulsive overeating or anorexia. Garb says size acceptance and avoiding fashion magazines are ways to overcome the pressures of an eating disorder.
