Nathan Dean was named Dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science by FAU on June 1. Dean has spent the last two years as interim dean at the college.
“I sincerely believe we must have continuity of leadership,” Provost John Pritchett says. According to Pritchett, Dean has been vital in many of the steps FAU has taken to improve and expand the College of Science, including partnerships with Scripps and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, and a joint medical program with UM.
Dean is also a professor of physics and has been with FAU since 1993. He served as vice provost from 1996-2002.
Dean received his bachelor’s degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Ph.D. from Cambridge University in England. He has also held administrative and academic positions at Iowa State University, the University of Georgia and State University New York at Binghamton.
