Java junkies at Florida Atlantic have one less option this summer to get their fix.

The Boca Raton campus Starbucks closed on Thursday, June 30 and will remain that way until August 22.

The closure is due to renovations and comes at the start of the school’s summer term three.

Some students, like women’s basketball player Julie Fournier, are already feeling the void. “We have workouts from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. so it’ll be hard to stay awake without my Starbucks for my 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. classes,” the sophomore psychology major said.

Others, like sophomore neuroscience major Astrid Camero, are willing to cope. “I think it might be worth the wait if renovations improve customer service or overall aesthetics,” she said. “On the downside, no coffee for a month or two.”

Camero told the UP she goes to Starbucks almost every week. “I usually drink the caramel Frappuccino.”

The work at Starbucks is separate from the school’s Breezeway renovations, which began on June 20 and includes concrete repairs, roof replacement, restroom refurbishment and new lighting, according to the school’s website. Breezeway renovations are expected to be completed in October of 2017.

Meanwhile, the Starbucks renovations will include “new products, new seating, new countertops, new floors [and] new tiled walls,”  said Tiffany Wade, the director of operations at FAU’s Chartwells — the company in charge of food campus wide. “You can expect a whole new look.”

Some students, like Krystal Thalia, said the closure will encourage home coffee brewing. “It’ll force students to save money,” she said. But Madison Calloway, a mechanical engineering major, is missing the school location already. “No more green tea lemonade,” she said. “[It’s] probably for the better, that stuff is like expression for me.”

While you can’t get your Starbucks fix, other campus coffee options remain open. Here’s what you need to know:
