Intel Science Talent Search – Eligible students include high school seniors in the United States and its territories and American students attending school abroad. Each year over 1,500 students accept the challenge of completing an entry for the talent search, with finalists competing for the $100,000 scholarship top prize. Gates Millennium Scholarship – The scholarship is to promote academic excellence and provide an opportunity for thousands of outstanding students with significant financial need. Guggenheim Scholarship – Preference will be given to former FAU student athletes who are pursuing a graduate degree. Top priority will be given to former members of the FAU football team, followed by former members of FAU’s women’s athletic teams. National Scholars Honor Society Scholarship – The society strives to reward and encourage personal growth and development, as well as engender a sense of civic responsibility and dedication to our nation’s great political process. Members include thousands of America’s brightest minds and top achievers in the arts, the sciences, medicine, law, business and politics. The National Scholars Honor Society grants scholarships to highly qualified achievers from all academic pursuits. Scholarship eligibility is determined for each new applicant at the time of acceptance, and is reviewed biannually for as long as the member continues to update his file on an annual basis. $19,000 will be awarded in scholarships. The Mark Twain Scholarship Fund, Inc. – This fund will award eight scholarships. The scholarship is designed to promote and assist the post-secondary education of qualified young students in their chosen discipline with the fields of arts and humanities, applied arts, education, science, social sciences, mathematics, engineering, or law. Applicants must be of a freethinking persuasion; freed from all ancient or modern mythic interpretations of life and living; against all efforts to impose superstitious religious teachings and interpretations on society; and registered as full-time students at a university/college/institute, which awards B.S. and B.A. degrees. Applicants must submit an essay of no less than 750 words on a topic chosen yearly by the scholarship committee. All applications must be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2005. FBI Common Knowledge Scholarship – This scholarship is based on what you know. Four $1,000 first-place cash scholarships will be awarded every week during the month of December. Jacob K. Javits Fellowship – The program provides financial assistance to students of superior ability – as demonstrated by their achievements and exceptional promise – to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts level in selected fields of the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Panels of experts appointed by the Javits Fellowship Board select according to criteria established by the board. Students must also demonstrate financial need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 20 percent of the fellowships will be awarded in the social sciences, 20 percent in the arts, and 60 percent in the humanities. A minimum of 60 percent of the awards will be made to students who have no graduate credits. Applicants must be eligible to be accepted to or currently enrolled in a graduate program leading to a doctorate or a terminal master’s degree in an eligible field of study at an institution of higher education approved by an accrediting agency recognized by the secretary of the Department of Education.
