Bands at FAU

Each day we walk past them in the Breezeway and time after time we hear about another one up-and-coming. They are everywhere, and we’re not talking about Pepsi machines either. We’re talking about all the bands at FAU.

Where did they come from and why are there so many? To answer this question, a short story must be told. Along came the digital age and then expensive vinyl turned into computer codes of ones and zeros. Now all musicians, rich or poor, have the means of production – or at least can afford it.

In fact, their pennies can be stretched far enough to burn CD’s for a nickel, or put their music on the web for downloading (websites like www.purevolume.com).

Now on campuses across America, you have a bunch of bands without labels, or little itsy bitsy ones that you can barely see.

So why is FAU unique? Just put a couple of these bands’ CD’s into rotation and you’ll be sold by the time you get to track three.

Another reason may be that there is something in our water or our Pepsi -especially the Wild Cherry.

If you are a talented artist or among a group of artists such as musicians, painters, filmmakers, sculptors, designers, or if you just look like an artist, contact the UP to be in the upcoming column, “FAU Talent.”
