Grammy-nominated professor becomes part of the Academy

The academy that is responsible for the annual Grammy awards elected FAU professor Michael Zager to the Board of Governors in their Florida Chapter. Zager has a two-year term for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Zager himself is a Grammy-nominated producer.

The Florida Chapter was established in 1995. Members are involved in a number of activities including sponsoring recording industry career days at Florida high schools.

Zager has produced, composed and arranged music for albums, movies and commercials. He has 13 gold or platinum records for his work with artists such as Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston and others. Zager has donated his scores and recordings to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and is donating additional material to the FAU library.

Zager is currently the Dorothy F. Schmidt Eminent Scholar in the Performing Arts in FAU’s College of Arts and Letters. In 2002 he founded the commercial art program where students can get their bachelor in Music with a major in commercial music. A Master of Arts with a concentration in Commercial Music and the Minor in Commercial Music have also been added since his arrival.
