FAU Cares About You, So Buckle Up!

The Florida Atlantic University Police Department is launching a special effort to increase awareness of the importance of wearing seatbelts both on and off campus.

Did you know that:

* In 2002, 42,850 people died in traffic accidents. Of that number, 19,103 were not wearing seat belts.

* 4,200 lives could be saved each year if 90 percent of the U.S. population wore seat belts.

* Fatalities and accidents involving those not wearing seat belts cost the U.S. approximately $20 billion per year. The public pays for 74 percent of that cost.

* One out of four Americans still doesn’t wear a seat belt.

So whether you’re heading out on your normal commute, driving across campus or driving long distance on a family vacation, please make sure that everybody in your vehicle is buckled up. For more information on seatbelt safety, or to get help installing a child’s safety seat properly, call Officer Luis Santana at 561/297-3500.
