Freshman guard Josiah Parker has made history for Florida Atlantic men’s basketball (17-13, 9-8 AC), winning American Conference Freshman of the Week for the seventh time this season.
In 29 games, Parker is averaging 9.8 points, six rebounds, and 51.8% from the field in 21.2 minutes per game. In conference play, Parker has found a way to shine even more, averaging 12.7 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, and 51.8% from the field in 26.1 minutes per game. He has also been placed in the starting lineup for the past five games for the Owls.
In his last game, Parker hit a game-winning layup with 0.6 seconds remaining in overtime against the Charlotte 49ers (15-14, 9-7 AC). Parker finished with 10 points and nine rebounds in 35 minutes played for the Owls.
Parker has scored over 10 points in nine of his last ten games, and in his last four games has averaged a double-double with 13.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
The Ohio native passes former FAU and current Texas Longhorns center Matas Vokietaitis, who secured the Freshman of the Week honor six times last season for the Owls. In 33 games played for the Owls last season, Vokietaitis averaged 10.2 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and shot 67.2% from the field. He also won the 2024-25 American Conference Rookie of the Year and All-Freshman team.
Parker is positioned to amass similar accomplishments, as the awards will be announced at the end of the season.
Parker will be in action next when the Owls play against the Wichita State Shockers (20-10, 12-5 AC) on Saturday, March 7, at 4 p.m. on ESPNU.
