Florida Atlantic men’s basketball picked up its second home win of the week, leading for 38:58 of the 40 minutes of game time in an 82-59 win against Pacific at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. 

“We’re thrilled with the win tonight. It’s a nice thing to be at home; we played solid, and I was thankful for the defense. We lost our way a little bit at the end, but brought it back,” said FAU head coach John Jakus.

The team shot 42.3% from the 3-point range, making 11 3-pointers, while shooting 55.8% from the field and 81.3% from the free-throw line.

Guard Kanaan Carlyle had two 3-pointers and scored a season-high 21 points. His four-point play put the team up 21, 70-51, in the late second half, sealing the victory and his impeccable night. 

“I’m really thrilled for Kanaan Carlyle; 21 points, 7 for 12 from the field, he looked really comfortable and special at moments,” said Jakus.

Guard Devin Vanterpool, who led the team in scoring two nights ago, filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks. 

The Owls dominated on defense, blocking eight shots, getting nine steals and grabbing 21 defensive rebounds. 

Off the bench, forward Devin Williams blocked three shots, hounding Pacific players all night. 

“Let’s extend some minutes. Let’s get ready for this Thanksgiving tournament. I don’t think we’re fully there, but at least we’re winning and playing defense as we figure it out,” said Coach Jakus, satisfied with his team’s performance Thursday night. 

FAU will return to action Monday, Nov. 24 against the undefeated Loyola Marymount University Lions in the Sunshine Slam Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. Tipoff is at 8:30 p.m.
