Football: FAU Inks 17 Players on National Signing Day (Update)

Eight of the Owls football signees look to play on the defensive side of the ball.

After taking a look at some of the early signees and biggest recruits on the offensive side of the ball for FAU Football, we take a look at some of the team’s defensive signees.

Early Signing Period Signees

Franklin Jackson- 3-star 6-2 217 DE Winter Garden, FL (West Orange H.S.)

Franklin Jackson didn’t waste any time when it came to where he wanted to go to school. He committed to the Owls just one day after receiving his offer.

He then sealed his intent to climb aboard the “Lane Train” when he signed his letter of intent just 10 days later as part of the first ever early National Signing Day on Dec. 20.

He looks to help the Owls add to their C-USA leading season sack total (38) after having added 12 of his own during his senior season in high school.

He chose FAU over a variety of schools including Air Force and FIU, two schools that the Owls will be playing next season.

Charles Cameron- 3-star 6-2 290 DT Wesson, MS (Copiah-Lincoln C.C.)

Cameron had 48 tackles, including four sacks, in his nine games at JUCO with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack.

He enrolled at FAU in December and is currently attending classes. Cameron lans to participate in spring practice beginning on March 20.

Cameron also held offers from Louisville, Texas Tech, Kansas, and Colorado.

Devin Hayes- 3-star 6-6 250 DE Orlando, FL (Jones H.S)

Hays previously committed to N.C State before de-committing on Nov. 27, He will possibly switch between defensive line and offensive line.

The recruit held offers from Rutgers, USF and Wake Forest before committing.

National Signing Day Signees

Marcel Southall- 3-star 6-2 285 DT Tyler, TX (Tyler J.C)

The Texas native recorded 22 tackles in eight games and he was rated the no.12 JUCO defensive tackle in the nation.

He had offers from Boise State, and Louisiana- Lafayette during his recruiting process.

Jaylen Joyner- 3-star 6-3 255 DE Orlando, FL (Jones H.S)

In his senior season, Joyner tallied 55 total tackles (10 for loss), and two forced fumbles. He was a high school teammate of early signee Devin Hayes.

He had over 25 Division I offers according to 247sports, including UCF, Virginia Tech and Tennessee.

Armani Adams- 3-star 5-11 180 CB St. Petersburg FL (Lakewood H.S)

Had 72 tackles (13 for loss)in his senior season

was a verbal commit to Arizona earlier before deciding to sign with FAU

Adams also had offers from Baylor, USF, and Bowling Green.

Deon Woods- 3-star 6-5 215 DE Longwood, FL (Lyman H.S)

Prior to his one season of playing football his senior year, Woods ran track and played basketball.

FAU was his only scholarship offer.

Meiko Dotson- 2-star 5-10 188 CB Garden City, KS (Garden City C.C)

Dotson originally played at Georgia Tech before leaving to play at Garden City Community College last year.
