The FAU Boca Raton House of Representatives ended their semester by voting to pass six bills and tabling one bill indefinitely Friday afternoon.

By unanimous vote, the House passed the resolution, “Supporting the Implementation of Duck Crossing Signs,” which will now be sent to the university administration for implementation. The House also passed “The Boca Raton House of Representatives recognizes the Holiday of Juneteenth.”

Council of Student Organizations Director Jacqueline LaBayne is one of the bill’s authors. The bill will recognize June 19 as the anniversary of the abolition of slavery, a national holiday.

Other legislation passed include an on-campus bike rental program, suitable dates and times for committee meetings, and a bill detailing the Student Government line of succession.

The House passed a bill involving Mental Health Awareness Day, which “urges Florida Atlantic University to devote more time, effort, and resources into ensuring that the university have the recommended amount of therapists and police officers hired to work on campus.”

A bill that would have given more funding to Night Owls — a program that provides nighttime transportation for students across campus — was tabled indefinitely.

The University Press reached out to Student Government for comment on the passed legislation and its impact on FAU, but has not received a response as of publication time.
