Earlier this year, the university announced that BB&T bank will no longer continue operations on the FAU Boca campus.

The branch will close at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. In a letter sent to students, the bank said they will be consolidating with the East Boca Raton financial center at 701 N. Federal Hwy.

Marcy Grant, Market Leader for FAU’s financial center, said in an email that they are closing the location due to the lease expiring and didn’t know how many students were affected.

In July, however, David White, vice president of corporate communications at BB&T, told the University Press in an email that the bank tracks the productivity and foot traffic of each branch and that FAU was “not targeted specifically.”

“For several years, BB&T has reviewed the business strength of our financial center on the campus of Florida Atlantic University,” White wrote in July. “Based on many factors, including client usage patterns, the decision was made to close the branch.”

According to Grant, the school is still open for bid to find a replacement branch. In the email sent to students over the summer, the school said they’d have a new bank by spring 2018 or sooner.

So far, no announcements have been made on the matter.

The two nearest branch locations to the Boca campus are on Glades Road and St. Andrews Blvd and on N. Federal Hwy and Mizner Blvd and the seven BB&T ATMs on campus will continue to operate.
