With the football team away this weekend, you’re probably on the hunt for something fun to do. We’ve compiled a list of this weekend’s events, taking place as far north as West Palm to right here at FAU and down to Miami:

Who doesn’t love a battle of the bands? Rock out with United Way of Broward County and aspiring musicians looking to show their talent. Doors open at 6 p.m. at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, with tickets on sale for $20. Check out Join the Revolution for ticket purchases and info on the VIP section, which includes two free drinks, a t-shirt and balcony seating.

The Pompano Beach Amphitheatre is hosting a free series of critically-acclaimed films that were nominated for 2015 Academy Awards. The Florida Wind Symphony performs a concert in the spirit of one of the great American institutions, the Sousa Band! The world-class musicians of the FWS play toe-tapping marches, feature amazing soloists, perform masterpieces and more. Iconic British rock band Motörhead has been going strong since 1975, with a rock status that was achieved by doing what they do best: playing loud, fast, raucous, rock ‘n’ roll. Catch them and their guitar-driven anthems such as “Heartbreak,” the bombastic “Queen of the Damned” and the smokey lament of “Lost Woman Blues” this weekend. Alongside the British powerhouse is Anthrax with a headbanging lineup and Crobot, who blend funk, blues, metal and rock ‘n’ roll. Tickets start at $38.

For the comic book and cosplay lovers in all of us, Palm Con is back to fulfill your need for the fantastical. Of course there will be a comic book and collectible showcase, in addition to role-playing games, burlesque, local artists and more.
