Men’s Soccer: Owls fall to Fairfield 2-1

Two unanswered goals late decide game.

After opening up the week with a double overtime tie against the Jacksonville University Dolphins on Thursday, men’s soccer (0-2-1) lost to the Fairfield University Stags 2-1 on Sunday.

There were no goals scored by either team in the first half, but FAU and Fairfield (1-2-1) each took six shots during that time.

The first goal of the game came in the 69th minute, when midfielder Ronald Garcia crossed to junior defender David Adejunmobi on a corner kick. Adejunmobi headed the ball home to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

The Stags answered back in the 78th minute, when forward Ben Wignall beat FAU junior goalkeeper Josh Nolan to even the score at one.

Wignall later assisted on the game-winning goal for Fairfield, crossing to forward Justin Lewis in the 82nd minute.

Lewis received a yellow card in the 89th minute to close out the game. Stags goalie Matt Turner made two saves in the winning effort while Nolan made three stops.

The team will travel to Illinois next weekend to play Northern Illinois on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. They play Loyola-Chicago on Sept. 13 at 11 a.m.
