Florida Atlantic men’s basketball head coach Michael Curry released the team’s 2015-16 schedule in a tweet today.

The program starts its season on Nov. 13 against Michigan State. The Spartans reached the NCAA Final four last year, where they lost to eventual champion Duke.

Curry’s team faced Elon University in their first road matchup last year.

Notable non-conference matchups include games at University of Tennessee (Dec. 16) and versus Florida State University in the Orange Bowl Classic on Dec. 19 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

Sophomore center C.J. Turman originally committed to play basketball for Tennessee, but after the departure of then-coach Cuonzo Martin, Turman broke his commitment and ended up attending FAU.

The Owls will also play in the Men Against Breast Cancer Classic in Oxford, Ohio from Nov. 20- 22. Held on the campus of Kent State, the second year’s opponents are to be announced. Last year, Yale University won the inaugural tournament.

There are two non-NCAA Division I teams on the schedule: Warner Southern and Ave Maria. Florida Atlantic beat each team by double-digits last season.

Conference play begins on Jan. 3, in a road game at Florida International University. The Owls lost 62-60 to the Panthers at home last year. A year before, they were swept in the season series.

After going 2-16 in the Conference USA last winter, FAU will have to improve quickly or risk losing to the teams who put the Owls away the previous year.

While much of the conference schedule remains the same, the new non-conference and tournament appearances might provide a step toward competing at a higher level.
