The Florida Atlantic Owls (5-3, 0-0 in Conference USA) won their fourth straight game against the Stetson Hatters 79-69.

The Owls opened up the game firing on all cylinders. They shot 50 percent in the first half and eight different FAU players scored. The even scoring distribution gave the Owls a 20 point lead after the first period, 45-25.

Senior center Justin Raffington had eight points, six rebounds and two blocks after one half of play. Junior guard Solomon Poole had five points off the bench in the first half.

However, the Owls lead dwindled early in the second half. The Hatters (3-8, 0-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference) rattled off nine quick points to bring the lead down to 11. They got within six with 15 minutes left in the game, 48-54.

The Owls were able to withstand Stetson’s comeback attempt behind much-needed scoring from Poole. The Georgia Tech transfer was unexpectedly cleared to play tonight and led all scorers with 23 points. He shot 8-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from 3-point range.

It will be interesting to see how Curry spreads out the minutes at the guard position, and how he utilizes Poole going forward.

The Owls will see if they can keep their streak going on the road against the St. Francis Terriers on Dec. 20.
