FAU’s basketball program released its 2013-2014 regular season schedule, a docket that includes both familiar foes (FIU, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas) and collegiate basketball heavyweights (Duke, Maryland).

Following a pair of warm up games at The Burrow to open the season, FAU will step into one of the most frenzied arenas in the NCAA, Camden Indoor Stadium, for a clash with the Blue Devils, the school of choice for current NBA superstar Kyrie Irving, among many other notable alums.

FAU Head Coach Mike Jarvis is also familiar with Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski, making the showdown even more compelling.

“Off the court, we’re the best of friends,” Jarvis said. “But, much like any competition, that all ends when the game begins.”

Shortly after traveling to New York for the annual 2K Sports Classic (Nov. 17-24), the Owls will play consecutive home contests versus UCF and Jacksonville. Then, FAU goes back on the road for three-straight road games against DePaul, Maryland and Stetson.

Maryland is represented in the NBA by young talents, such as New Orleans Pelicans point guard Greivis Vasquez and Alex Len, the Phoenix Suns’ recently-drafted center.

The Owls’ first game as members of Conference USA comes on Jan. 9, when they’ll face Louisiana Tech. FAU’s first conference home game comes one week later, on Jan. 16, against ECU.

FAU will close out the season at home, battling in-state rival FIU on March 6.

The Owls have lost three players this offseason –– Cavon Baker, Chris Bryant and Stefan Moody –– as this looks to be a transition year for Jarvis.

“It’s a tough schedule,” Jarvis said. “But these kids are going to be playing in some of the best basketball environments in the country. If I’m a [player], I want to hear that.”
