Freshmen flooded the Rec Center on Monday evening to shoot hoops, putt golf balls and play Wii Bowling, among other things.
The occasion was Get Rec’d, which is defined by FAU’s website as an orientation event showcasing FAU’s different sports and recreational activities.
“I think it really added to the entire experience by showing a different aspect of the whole college life,” said freshman neuroscience major Gabrielle Weintraub, after finishing a game of volleyball.
Orientation leader Chrissie Missal agreed. “It’s really fun to meet freshmen and see them experience what FAU is all about,” she said as she refereed a game of corn hole, an activity in which players throw bean bags into holes for points.
Get Rec’d also allowed new students to get to know each other, which freshman chemistry major Ashleyvette Lopez-Delgado was happy about. “I had fun. I got to meet a lot of people and that is what I was looking forward to the most.”
“I think the event is successful because it provides incoming freshmen with a snapshot of the out-of-classroom student life,” said Campus Recreation Director Eric Hawkes.
