According to fauowlaccess.com, redshirt junior Graham Wilbert has won the competition for starting quarterback and will stand behind center when FAU takes on the University of Florida on Sept. 3 for the season opener.
Throughout the offseason, Wilbert has been in a battle with fellow redshirt junior David Kooi to be the Owl’s next quarterback.
Head coach Howard Schnellenberger was not available immediately following today’s practice, according to Owl Access, but confirmed the news to Sports Information Director, Katrina McCormack and sent out a tweet (http://twitter.com/#!/Schnellenberger/status/106135647953235969) saying “Graham Wilbert will be our starting quarterback when we face UF.”
After tweeting, Schnellenberger spoke to the media.
“It was really tight and a hard decision to make,” Schnellenberger told Owl Access.
Wilbert goes into the season with only 41 passing yards, 5 passing attempts, and no starts on his resume.
